Back in the late 1980s, MGN editor Ed Gross conducted an interview with writer/director James Komack, whose credits ranged from such TV shows as My Favorite Martian, The Courtship of Eddie’s Father and Welcome Back Kotter, to the features Porky’s Revenge and Back to the Beach. For the original Star Trek he helmed the episode “A Piece of the Action,” in which the Enterprise investigates a planet that has been “contaminated” by Earth culture and modeled itself on gangster-laden Chicago in the 1920s. What follows is an edited verson of that audio interview (and please excuse the quality of some of the sound – it’s from a cassette tape that’s nearly 25 years old.
